The Addams Family screentests Back in 1964, photographer Bill Ray took a series of photos on the set of what appears to be a number of screen tests for the cast of The Addams Family. John Astin can be seen as Gomez in some of the shots and he was evidently a given, but each of the other characters has at least three actors trying out for the part, in full costume and make-up. The pictures were taken for Life magazine and hence are now copyright to Time Inc but have been made available “for personal non-commercial use only” through Google. I believe that gathering the pictures together into some sort of order and annotating them on a non-profit site like this falls under the definition of 'personal non-commercial use’. Clicking on any image will open up the full size image in Google’s Life archive. Please note that a few of the pictures have suffered a little damage over the years. And yes, some of them doing look almost identical. These photos came to light in May 2009 when they were discussed in this thread on the Classic Horror Film Board. If you can shed any further light on the identity of the actors (or indeed any of the crew seen here) then please either post to that thread or contact me directly.
